A lot of backyards have usable square footage that just goes to waste - uneven ground, no defined space, nothing to anchor the layout. That's exactly what we were working with here. The yard had potential, but without structure, it wasn't doing much for the homeowner.
We came in and built out a solid concrete patio with a clean exposed aggregate finish, then wrapped it with a block retaining wall to hold everything in place and give the whole area a defined edge. That wall does two things at once - it keeps the grade from pushing back against the slab and it gives the patio a finished, intentional look instead of just concrete sitting in the dirt.
One of the details we're proud of on this one is the curved wall section wrapping around the shed-side patio. That's not a cut corner - that's actual craftsmanship. Each block had to be set carefully to follow that arc without looking sloppy. When it's done right, it looks natural. When it's done wrong, you can tell immediately.
What the homeowner ended up with is a backyard that has real structure now. A large functional hardscape area near the outbuilding, a curved patio section that flows with the layout, and a retaining wall that ties it all together. No more wasted space. No more undefined edges. Just a yard that makes sense.
This is the kind of work that holds up for years. The wall supports the grade, the concrete handles the traffic, and the whole setup adds genuine value to the property - not just curb appeal, but actual usability.
