A lot of backyards in Saint Paul just sit there - unused, unfinished, and kind of wasted. No real place to grill, nowhere comfortable to set up chairs, and grass that gets muddy every time it rains. That's exactly the kind of backyard we started with on this one.

Here's what the build process actually looks like from the ground up. We excavate the area, lay a gravel base, and compact everything down tight before a single paver goes in. That plate compactor you can see mid-job isn't just for show - proper compaction is what keeps a patio from shifting or sinking over time. Skip that step and you're redoing the whole thing in five years. We don't skip it.

The paver pattern we used here is a classic tumbled cobble mix in red and charcoal tones. It has a natural, aged look that fits well with older Saint Paul homes. The curved border edge is what really sets it apart - it softens the whole space and makes the patio feel intentional rather than just dropped into the yard. Getting that curve right takes time and a steady eye, but the finished edge speaks for itself.

What you end up with is a backyard that actually works. Space to grill. Room for chairs and a table. A solid, stable surface that holds up through Minnesota winters and looks good doing it. Paver patios also add real value to a home - they're one of the few outdoor upgrades that pays you back when it counts.

Every paver patio we build starts with a solid foundation and ends with clean, finished edges. No shortcuts on either end. If your backyard isn't working as hard as it should be, a well-built paver patio might be exactly what it needs.
